Adult Upper Cervical Specific Chiropractic Care focuses on the top two bones in the neck. These two bones can misalign in 274 different combinations. Without proper analysis and radiographic findings it is literally impossible to determine how to correct such complex and subtle misalignments. Often, Upper Cervical Specific Doctors are looking for a millimeter or less of misalignment. Each individual person has their own unique misalignment, which is why every degree of misalignment changes the type of adjustment they receive.
Pediatric Upper Cervical Care
As with adults, upper cervical (neck) misalignments can have significant effects upon the nervous system’s ability to transmit information to and from a child’s body. Messages exchanged between the brain and body (through billions of nerves) guide the transformation of a newborn child into an adult. Each message provides instructions to the child’s growing body to provide for immune function, coordination of muscle activity, repair and growth of tissues, respiration and digestion among others.
How can newborns and children develop spinal injuries early in life?
How can newborns and children develop spinal injuries early in life? It can begin with the normal birthing process. Even during the gentlest of births, presentation of the baby’s head through the birth canal requires physical pressure exerted by the mother. This can force the baby’s neck to twist or bend causing misalignment of the upper cervical vertebrae. Use of suction and/or forceps can compound the problem. Breech births place the newborn at unique risk for developing upper cervical problems depending upon the presentation and total time of labor.
Growing Pains
If the newborn makes it through the birthing process unaffected, the inevitable tumbles and falls of childhood increase the risk of injury to the upper cervical spine potentially compromising brain/body communication. An evaluation is necessary in each child’s case to assess whether an upper cervical injury is present and whether benefit from Upper Cervical Specific Chiropractic Care can be achieved.

• All x-rays are developed digitally to eliminate the use of film and chemicals. This also reduces the amount of radiation needed for an exposure. You will receive a copy of your x-rays on a CD upon request.
•Standard x-ray equipment is mass-produced for the traditional medical market. The loss of alignment that occurs when utilizing the standard equipment can result in misrepresentation of the anatomy resulting in miscalculation of a patient’s listing, further resulting in an incorrect adjustment, which will not enable the patient to get well. Atlas Specific’s x-ray equipment enables our doctors to take all of your x-rays with perfect alignment.
Digital Infrared Paraspinal Thermography
• Thermography is simply a reading that measures the amount of heat from underneath the skin on the back of the neck, which is controlled by the brainstem, in order to allow us to determine if the adjustment is necessary.
• If the adjustment is found to be necessary, then you will receive a post-thermographic evaluation to determine if the proper correction was made. This procedure is used on every visit to objectively monitor the course of your care.
•Titronics Digital Infrared Paraspinal Thermographic Technology does not require the use of any radiation and is our most objective measure used at Atlas Specific.
